So you've decided you want to start prepping. Good, now it doesn't matter why. If your worried about floods, tornadoes, zombies, WROL, or Mad Max; food is food and water is water no mater why you have it. My suggestion is to work towards goals. How long do you want to be prepped for. Start small and work your way up. By no means do you have to break the bank prepping for food and water. The less people to feed the easier this will be for you. I suggest you start with a weeks worth.
Heres how you do it. When your buying food from your grocery of choice, just add a few extra items. Grab five dollars worth of canned food and water. A gallon of water cost about one dollar at Wal-mart. And beef stew is about a dollar and half or less. Your not going to notice that five dollars is missing, and now you have some food and water. Its really that easy every time you shop just pick something up extra. Slowly(if you don't use it anyways) It will add up and you will have a weeks worth of food and water In no time at all.
You don't need to go out and buy MRE's or any thing like that. Now if you want to Stock up quick your going to have to spend more. But its not necessary, spend what you can. The economy is bad right now and gas price's continue to go up so spending an extra fifty dollars may be out of the question, but five to ten dollars I am sure you can handle that.
In a later post I will talk about storage of water, how to purify your own, and stuff like that. Right now its about getting that base supply thats pre packaged for you. I will also go into what kinds of foods I suggest. Its all about less money more product.
Be sure your food stock is well balanced. Include fruits and vegetables packed in water and natural juices. The water and juices will be drank to add to your fluid intake and keep you hydrated. Check the date on cans and rotate your stock frequently. Don't stock foods that will not be eaten. If your child does not eat carrots don't buy them. Stick with foods that are healthy and stock an assortment of items.
